Crossbows Do Not Change Archery Deer Harvest
The Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency has collected data on the effect of allowing deer hunting with crossbows. Crossbows have been allowed since 2003 during the muzzleloader and gun seasons, however, 2005 was the first year that they were allowed during the regular archery deer season.
Many worried that the harvest would rise to unacceptable levels due to the longer range and greater power - especially when crossbows took off in popularity. Results show that crossbows have not produced a dramatic change in deer harvest.
